My Secret Trainer: Practical Advice for Healthy and Sustainable Weight Loss

You have made the decision it is time to lose weight. For various reasons we can choose to lose weight at any time, day, or month of our lives. A lot of people make it a New Years Resolution that this will be the year that I lose weight. But how much weight? By When?
There are many factors to consider when setting a goal weight. What is your age, your height, your overall body composition, your health. But more importantly is to understand why you feel it is necessary to lose weight. I am a firm believer that if you are healthy, active, and living your best life, why change? Each one of us is different from the other, and no two people are the same. We are one of a kind. So to compare ourselves to someone else, to compare ourselves to people we see in the movies, on TV, or in a magazine, is just not realistic.
I was living a pretty good life, I felt I was active enough, I thought I was healthy enough, and I thought I was living my best life. Unfortunately I was wrong.
My life changing moment happened when I was on a family game show. It was during the summer months, so the show had outdoor activities. The last challenge of the show, is I had to run and slide down a slip and slide, and the further I made it, the better the prize was. I put on swim shorts and took my shirt off and ran to the slip and slide as fast as I could. I jumped forward and slid, not as far as I thought I would, only made it to the middle of the slip and slide. The life changing event didn’t happen, during the contest, it happened afterward.
I invited friends and family to the preview at a small movie theater. About 60 people and other audience members to gauge the show. Most of the show was entertaining and the people were enjoying themselves. Than came the finale of the show, me running shirtless towards the slip and slide. I have to be honest, I never really looked at myself shirtless so I was shocked to see how bad I looked. The producer of the show, put my run in slow motion and played some melodramatic music in slow motion. It was excruciating watching my blubbery exterior bounce unceremoniously in slow motion. The people in the audience couldn’t help themselves and laughed hysterically. For me it was life changing. I had to change right now! It was embedded deep inside my soul, I had to change.
Spend some time with your reason why you want to change, why you want to lose weight. Get the reason embedded deep. I can almost guarantee, if you don’t have your reason why you want to lose weight, you will not make your goal.

What are some reasons you may want to lose weight?
1. Your doctor has advised you for health reasons you need to lose weight. Your doctor will also advise the best methods to achieve this.
2. You want to start a new sport or activity and don’t have the energy.
3. You want to feel better about yourself by losing weight.
4. You want to play with your children or grand children.
5. You want to be mobile and agile enough to travel.
These are just a few reasons. Your reason will be your reason. Just make sure it is a solid enough reason to carry you through the highs and lows of a weight loss program.
In the book I wrote, “My Secret Trainer”, the fictional character Paige
is brought to the realization that she is categorically overweight as determined by her doctor. Her doctor is concerned with her weight as she is borderline diabetic. She is recommended by her doctor to start a diet. This of course is easier said than done, and Paige started recalling all of her previous attempts and failures in her life about losing weight. Her weight loss journey is told in a fun, fictional storyline, where she receives advice from a personal trainer she has never met. Check it out on Amazon Kindle. Click the below link twice.

Once again, before beginning any diet, I recommend you see a doctor before starting any weight loss program.
My advice and ideas are based on over 30 years of practical life experience, and I always advise slow and steady, not fast and unhealthy.
